Akrobotix has designed a new software for detecting masks. The plug and play device is loaded with an AI engine that can distinguish between humans with/without a mask on their face and gently alerts the passing by human to wear a mask, if they aren't covering their face. This system doesn't collect any image data of the passing by humans and works standalone in a small form factor of a standard 52-card deck. Additionally, this system can count people entering/exiting the building and provides the occupancy numbers. “We have been developing advanced machine learning pipelines for object detection in autonomous robots navigation as a part of our long term R&D,” said Dr. Sasi Prabhakaran, CEO and cofounder of Akrobotix. “We’re happy to use our computer vision modules to build a solution for the well-being of humans during the COVID-19.”
Akrobotix is a research and product development startup focusing on autonomous systems and robotics technology for space, air, land and sea applications. They were a GENIUS NY finalist in 2017 and continue to work out of The Tech Garden. The startup now has three full-time employees and three interns. Ideal customers for the software may include commercial buildings, retail, restaurants and rail/bus stations.
