Turning a 1990s symbol of failure into a hub of innovation, invention and entrepreneurship.Did you know The Tech Garden use to be a parking garage? The garage collapsed in 1994 and sat vacant for ten years.
In January 2005, after the development of an investor and mentor network, the doors of The Tech Garden opened, welcoming its first tenant, Plant Defense Boosters, Inc. and launching the NASA-funded Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program, which offered free technical assistance to regional businesses. The project united politicians and local business organizations who shared a common vision of a community powered by innovation. Now, over ten years later, The Tech Garden serves as an example for incubators across the region, with its programs being emulated across the state. |
“The Tech Garden has been awesome for us. They run classes. They build your knowledge. The staff has been a resource and networking source for us.” |
The Future of The Tech Garden
At the end of 2019, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that The Tech Garden will undergo a major expansion project to include the addition of two floors to the existing facility.
The increased visibility and street-scape will serve as the anchor of the Syracuse's City Center Innovation Hub, a core component of the Syracuse Surge strategy, and will serve as the gateway to the "Innovation Alley" on Warren Street in Syracuse. Empire State Development is assisting the expansion project with up to $12.5 million made available through the regionally designed CNY Rising Upstate Revitalization Initiative plan. |
