06/30/2010
The Clean Tech Center is pleased to have been selected by Partners for Livable Communities and the Institute for Sustainable Development as the winner of the Green Plus Chamber of the Year at the Green Plus North American Sustainable Enterprise Awards. The Institute for Sustainable Development created the award to recognize organizations for the example they have set in advancing the triple bottom line of sustainability.

The award recognizes chambers of commerce that have an exemplary track record in four categories:
• Regional leadership: Creating a more sustainable region
• Assisting members in improving their triple bottom line
• Making the economic case for sustainability
• Leading by example
"Chambers of commerce throughout the country are implementing green business programs, attracting clean industries, and creating green jobs; they are paving the way to the more sustainable and robust communities of the 21st century," said Carly Grimm, program officer of Partners for Livable Communities.
The CenterState Chamber was at the core of organizing a regional innovation cluster that has gained international recognition; was instrumental in organizing a nearly 200 member "green" consortium; and worked with the New York State Energy Research Development Authority (NYSERDA) to create The Clean Tech Center at The Tech Garden.
In addition, the CenterState Chamber hosts a regular calendar of "Green Business Development" Days, an annual Green Business Showcase including a student "Green Innovation Exposition," and is an active partner with New York State policy makers helping to shape some of the most ambitious statewide clean energy programs and sustainability goals in the nation.
Syracuse Featured in Economics of Sustainability Report Washington D.C. based Partners for Livable Communities (Partners) also featured The Clean Tech Center and the CenterState Chamber in its new Economics of Sustainability report, "The Dollars and Sense of Green Business." The publication explores the innovation and leadership by chambers of commerce from around the country, selected by Partners as champions of the green economy. Eleven organizations nationally are profiled in the report.
The report is available on the Partners' website: www.livable.org/DollarsAndSenseOfGreenBusiness.
The Clean Tech Center meets with Global Cleantech Clusters and Investors
The Clean Tech Center was part of an elite group of cleantech clusters and investors from around the world who gathered in New York in June for "Investment Opportunities: Where is Cleantech Capital Going?" a focused discussion led by Sustainable World Capital and the Consulate General of Switzerland.
The Clean Tech Center and NY-ACRE, two NYSERDA-funded clean energy incubators based in New York state, were part of the meeting with leading U.S. and Swiss fund managers and investors for a focused discussion on global cleantech investment trends.
As part of the event, plans were announced to launch a global "cleantech cluster of clusters." Leading the effort will be Christian Haeuselmann of Swiss Cleantech, Linda Hartsock of The Clean Tech Center and Nina Harjula of the Finnish Cleantech Cluster based in Lahti, Finland. The Syracuse-based Clean Tech Center was named #6 on the list of Top Ten Cleantech Cluster Organizations in the World, which was published in February 2010 by the Cleantech Group.
