TCM Mobile Unveils First Ever VoIP Based Cellular System
07/01/2009
TCM Mobile, a tenant of the Tech Garden for two years, has announced a first ever VOIP-based cellular system. After several years of development and testing this new telecommunications technology using the free unlicensed spectrum to provide high-quality cellular phone service using voice over internet protocol (VOIP) was introduced. TCM, by using the unlicensed frequency spectrum, has enabled itself and other carriers acquiring the technology to enter the cellular marketplace without purchasing dedicated spectrum which recently has cost carriers billions of dollars. Additionally infrastructure cost is a fraction of that of other cellular technologies and operating costs much lower because of TCM Mobile's small modular equipment. TCM has deployed its network technology in downtown Syracuse because the city is well-know for field testing emerging communication technologies and the City of Syracuse's exceptionally tech- friendly environment.
