DoD Commercialization Assistance Program (DoD CAP)
This program funded by a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) provides commercialization assistance to companies in New York that have received Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grants from the Department of Defense.
As part of its DoD Commercialization Assistance Program, 25 companies from New York were selected to participate in this program through a competitive application process. The Tech Garden sought to identify those companies having the greatest commercialization potential that could generate significant economic development impact if provided assistance.
The Tech Garden has developed customized plans for each company in the areas of business planning, marketing, sales, government contracting and securing capital. The Tech Garden also secured senior mentors, consultants and experts within the participating companies' industry to provide specialized business and technical assistance.
Another unique role of this program is in connecting these companies with customers - both internal governmental and industry-wide. We serve as an advocate for the company's SBIR project and leverage our numerous relationships with contractors that are part of the Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program (SATOP). This is a crucial step in moving these companies ahead to the next step in commercialization.
The Tech Garden is hosting an event on September 15, 2009, which will showcase the companies in the program to an audience of defense program managers, acquisition officers, prime contractors, corporations that can benefit from dual-use technologies, venture capitalists and angel investors. DoD CAP is funded through the Defense Logistics Agency.
